PRESENTER: Murray Wagnon
Murray is now into his fourth year as the President of the Monterey Bay Area Plein Air Painters Association (MBPAPA). He frequently paints outdoors, but not exclusively. He creates and sells larger studio paintings based on the relatively smaller paintings done outdoors.
He will show us how to “keep the spark” when enlarging smaller paintings into large format art.
As a teenager, Murray explored the colonies of Artists, Writers, and Musicians living in the houseboats along the Sausalito waterfront. While on one of those houseboats he decided to be an artist. He was struck by the feeling that this was the most natural way for a man to live. He then began attending creative art workshops from local artists, and artisans.
He attended Santa Clara University, West Valley College, Mission College, Private Workshops, and Independent Studies. Subjects included ceramics, sculpture, printmaking, abstract and representational painting, photography, commercial art, advertising design, and art history. He did intense independent studies of The Impressionists as well as the Abstract Expressionists of the New York School.
He took particular interest in the work of Cezanne, whose influence can be seen in his work.
